Hard water can lead to hair damage when mineral components like calcium, magnesium and iron make foaming agents harder to rinse off, leaving behind soap scum that coats your scalp and clog hair follicles. 

The clogged hair follicles, as a result, reduces healthy nutrients from reaching your hair and scalp. This may contribute to frizz, split ends and hair loss. 

On top of that, hard water also messes with dyed hair, as mineral deposits like copper and iron can oxidize your highlights and cause discoloration.

If you happen to suffer from conditions like eczema, psoriasis, dry skin - hard water could worsen the symptoms as it increases sensitivity to irritants found in soap products. In certain cases, these issues can even start developing once you move or spend time in an area with hard water. 

Hard water affects oily skin and can trigger breakouts. During an interview with Self Magazine, Dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross explains, "Impurities from hard water causes a chemical reaction with your skin's natural oils, and changes the oil from a liquid form to wax. This, in turn, clogs your pores and can lead to acne."
