SHOULD YOU CHANGE HAIR CARE PRODUCTS EACH SEASON?
Just as you'd change your wardrobe every season, you should also look at changing your hair care products as well. I mean, you wouldn't wear short-shorts in a blizzard, right? Because it doesn't offer the protection that you require for harsh winter weather.
The same seasonal changes should apply to your hair care routine too. Here are some minor tweaks you can make to help your hair adapt and cope with the changing seasons.
WHEN IT'S DRY AND CHILLY
Your scalp becomes dry due to the cold temperatures and lower humidity due to indoor heating. Stripped of natural oils, your scalp is more prone to irritation and dandruff, ugh.
During winter months, we recommend using an extra moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. You can look for hair care that includes hydrating ingredients like honey, argan, and jojoba oil.
The dry air can also weaken your strands because it makes your hair so much more brittle prone to breakage. Some other ingredients who recommend looking at are silk proteins as well as collagen, hyaluronic acid, and lilac.
WHEN IT'S HOT AND HUMID
During the summer months, increased humidity can cause your hair to suck up the moisture and expand (frizz up). This is especially true for frequently styled or chemically processed hair. On another note, humidity also increases moisture on your scalp, which can create a breeding ground for bacteria.
To combat frizz, we suggest looking for ingredients that will help smooth and close your hair's cuticle, such as Poshyra Algae. Also, haircare that contains 'repair' ingredients is useful in combatting frizz. They reinforce weak spots and minimize moisture penetration through the cuticles.
To prevent your scalp from becoming a breeding ground for bacteria, look for shampoos with deep-clean qualities that won't dry out your scalp.
ON SUPER SUNNY DAYS
Sun isn't just for your skin, you should incorporate it into haircare too. UV rays can impact your hair, causing your strands to feel weak and dry. To minimize the effects of sun damage, you can look for haircare with ingredients like wheat, soy amino acids, and arginine. Coconut oil can also do wonders by adding an extra protective layer to shield away from the effects of drying heat.
BETTER WATER, ALL YEAR ROUND
Water is the first step of every hair care routine, and it doesn't hurt to make sure the water you're using is helping your case and not working against you. A shower filter would come in handy to keep your scalp better moisturized by eliminating chemicals, metals, and impurities in your water.
