BANISH BOOTY SPOTS WITH BETTER SHOWERS HABITS

Buttne, A.K.A. the (literal) pain in the *ss. This is true especially during the season of pool parties, short shorts, and other summer fun. Here’s a quick fact: Buttne isn’t just acne on your butt, so combating them is different than treating breakouts on your face.

Buttne is a common skin condition caused by inflamed hair follicles as a result of bacterial or fungal infection. It may be caused by tight clothing, sweat, dry skin and even waxing. Dr. Anjali Mahto of the British Association of Dermatologists reminds us that both men and women equally suffer from buttne that usually manifests itself as red pimples on the buttocks.

Your first step? Cleanse properly, especially during showers! Shower with quality water that: 1. doesn’t strip moisture from your skin 2. doesn’t leave behind soap scum which clogs your pores. A KLEAN Shower Filter got your back (really). Our filter helps remove bacteria, chlorine, and heavy metals, so the first step of your self-care routine stays worry-free. Also, it’s important to jump in the shower immediately after your work-outs. Rinsing yourself prevents the sweat, oil, and dirt from building up and causing inflammation on your skin.

Exfoliation is definitely a no-go when the area is inflamed. Many of us think that scrubbing makes our derriere smoother, but in reality, it’s worsening the inflammation. This can lead to scarring and hyper-pigmentation.

Dr. Mahto warns about using body oils on your buttocks as they are likely to clog the follicles. Instead, look for lactic acid options in your body moisturizer. It helps hydrate, and remove the dead skin cells which cause bumpy skin. Salicylic acid acne treatment is also a good idea, as it helps exfoliate and remove excess oils.

What else? Try opting for clothing made from natural fibers. Cotton, for instance, is more breathable and keeps moisture from building up between your skin and clothing. And if all else fails, definitely speak with your dermatologist and find a specific treatment for your buttne breakout concern.
